System requirements

What it needs
from your machine.

Detection models ship inside the application, so the install is larger than the interface alone would suggest and smaller than a round trip to a server every time you scan a page.

Operating system
Windows 10 or Windows 11, 64-bit.
Processor
Any 64-bit x86 processor. No GPU is required — detection runs on the CPU.
Disk space
4 GB free. The installer is about 1.15 GB and the application is about 3.6 GB installed, because the detection models ship inside it rather than running on a server.
File formats
Word (.docx), Excel (.xlsx), PowerPoint (.pptx), Markdown (.md), plain text (.txt) and text pasted straight into the application. PDF is not supported.
Network
Checked at startup and re-checked periodically. Document processing never uses the network.
Permissions
AnoVeil installs for your user only and never needs administrator rights — not to install it, not to run it.

Release notes

What changed.

No releases yet

Release notes will be published here from the first public build onward, newest first, with the version and date against every change.

Installing it

Three things to know.

Windows will warn you the first time

The installer is not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen shows “Windows protected your PC” when you run it. Choose More info, then Run anyway. We will sign the installer before the public release.

You choose how the codebook is stored

On first run, decide whether the mapping from token back to real value is password-protected or stored as-is. It lives in %LOCALAPPDATA%\AnoVeil either way, and uninstalling leaves it in place.

The device has to be authorized once

Authorization is per device rather than per install, so reinstalling or updating does not use another slot. You can revoke a device from your account portal at any time.
